I have the privilege and honor of being the lead pastor of Sovereign Joy Baptist Church. I am deeply grateful that I get preach the Word to them, pray for them, and pastor them through the many sorrows and joys of life. I grew up mostly in the Midwest (Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota). I completed an undergraduate degree in Engineering in 2010 and married my wife Abby in 2013. I thought that I was going to have a long career as a Manufacturing Engineer. But God had a different plan for me. After working as an engineer for about 5 years, God called me to pursue full-time ministry. I quit my job, and we moved to Minneapolis, MN to pursue an M.Div from Bethlehem College & Seminary where God equipped me to faithfully and joyfully handle his Word. After seminary I served in two different pastoral roles in the Pacific Northwest that challenged me and shaped me into a faithful preacher and shepherd. In 2026, God worked in various ways to call me to Kansas City to be the lead pastor at Sovereign Joy Baptist Church. My heart’s desire is for Sovereign Joy to be both a healthy church and a sending church that reaches both our city and the nations with the gospel.

My name is Jason DeRouchie, and I delight in serving as one of the pastors of Sovereign Joy Baptist Church. I focus principally on preaching and teaching, and I also supply leadership and strategy for fulfilling our mission to glorify God by multiplying mature Christians who spread joy in Jesus Christ. I met Jesus when I was only five, and for nearly five decades I have been growing to know him and to make him known. My wife (Teresa) and I have been married for over three decades, and we are parents and grandparents of a table full. We love Christ’s church, Christ’s gospel, and Christ’s work in the world, and we delight in the people that make up SJBC. I also serve as a professor of Old Testament and biblical theology at Midwestern Seminary. I was born and raised in southwest Ohio surrounded by vast cornfields. I met my wife, Lynne, while in college, and we were married shortly after I graduated. We have the joy of being parents to Nora Evangeline. I attended Cedarville University before earning my M.Div from Indianapolis Theological Seminary, and am currently working towards my PhD at Midwestern Seminary. Since I became a Christian, my heart’s desire has been to serve as a pastor and to train pastors around the globe.
